“Given that trust is our rarest currency, we have no choice but to teach our children, and one another, to be trusting and worthy of trust. You build trust by showing up, by listening to what someone else has to say, by keeping promises. You build trust through shared endeavour and by the consistency of your words and actions. You build it by admitting mistakes and by communicating both when things go well and when they fail. You build trust by knowing your values, living them, and being clear with others that you will not violate those values.”

“I asked somebody once, 'what color is the road?' He looked at the road of it, then he said, ‘It's not just grey, is it?' I said, 'No, it's not - if you really look. But you have to really look’

With photography you're not really looking. But, when you're drawing one blade of grass, you're looking, and then you see the other blades of grass, and you're always seeing more.”

Bust Your Ass. Pay Attention. and Fall in Love.

I talked to the kids about these - There are the three things you need to know to succeed in life:

. bust your ass is just - basically, whatever you do, just kill yourself. Work as hard as you can. only good can come from it.

. pay attention is - people just don't notice enough about what's going on around them.  you can absorb and learn from everything around you - all the time.

ask people questions all the time.

. fall in love isn't really a romantic love - is like, if I get a really good cup of coffee, I like to just go, ‘you know what? Hang on a second. This is a fantastic cup of coffee. Isn't this great?’ And I'll ask everyone ‘isn't this great coffee?’  Because, you know,  it's not always great. This one is great.”

“Les gens ne savent pas vivre. On ne leur apprend pas.

Je sais travailler. Je sais m’imposer une discipline. Mais, si je n’ai pas envie de faire quelque chose, rien ni personne ne pourront m’y decider.

[…]

Pour être irremplaçable, il faut rester différente.”

“People don’t know how to live. We don’t them.

I know how to work. I know how to impose discipline on myself.

But if I don’t want to do something, nothing and no one can make me do it.

[…]

To be irreplaceable, you have to remain different.”
